Race Report Round 2 MCO Calabogie June 4-5th - TQLA Member Chris Haley

The weekend started out with great weather on Friday and Saturday, sunny warm and light breeze. Jim, Bob and Mike McNeil made the trip to Calabogie with their cars while Richard came up as chief spectator and assistant crew for Jim as Devin was unable to make the trip. Practice went well for Jim & Mike, but Bob's gremlin's from Mosport had made the trip to Calabogie so after practice he changed an injector, coil, all the sensors and checked all the electrical connections before qualifying. Everyone headed out for qualifying and Bob seemed to have found the problem as the car went well as did Mike & Jim's. Jim set a personal best time at CMP in qualifying at approx 2:07.7 (unfortunately the qualifying times for Libre are not on the Race Hero website so I don't know the exact time) and qualified about 9th for the race with Mike and Bob farther back as they didn't stay out long. We actually got to run the race in the sun in mid afternoon with 22 cars in Libre race headed by 3 very quick Stor sports racers. At the drop of the green, Jim got a great start and was 5th crossing the line and fourth not long after. Unfortunately he had a slight off/on at corner 5 shortly thereafter and dropped a few spots to 10th where he ran for the rest of the race with a radical sports racer and a Formula Renault. Mike and Bob moved up through the field to 11th and 12th with Bob getting past Mike mid race and that is how they finished - F4 - Jim, 1st, Bob 2nd, Mike 3rd.

One of the things Jim had mentioned when we got there Friday was that the "skitters" were in fine form and he was not wrong. Both Friday and Saturday evenings, everyone was in their campers by 9pm due to the bugs. As I mentioned earlier this was going to be a quick review, well you have had it. We woke up to rain at about 7:15am Sunday and it continued off and on all day - imagine that, rain on a race weekend. Mike had gone home Saturday night as he had determined it was going to rain so no use hanging around (he was the smart one). We loaded up the cars in the pouring rain about 10am and headed home. Some day we will get a complete weekend without rain or snow or fog or............

The next race is not until the last weekend of July and that is also the TQLA BBQ weekend so get cars together, get family and friends together and come out to the races. Please let Richard know if you will be attending the BBQ so he and Val can plan appropriately. I will not be there that weekend due to attending a friend's wedding so hope to see you all later in the season.
